Midwest Living: You've Probably Never Heard of This Wisconsin Town—Here's Why It's Worth a Visit

Tucked along Wisconsin's Fox River roughly 90 minutes northeast of Milwaukee, Princeton has an old-time charm. Streets are dotted with 19th-century stone and brick buildings, and antiques shops and a massive weekly flea market are popular draws. But as a flashy new mural of flying cranes conveys, this town of 1,200 is on the rise. The new Parlor Hotel lures travelers with quaint accommodations and pop-up musical performances. Its owner, Matt Trotter, is also responsible for the neighboring Horseradish Kitchen, where sandwiches are freshly dressed with local ingredients. I spent an easy day and evening in Princeton in midwinter, and even outside of tourist season, there was plenty to do. If you are traveling in the colder months, I suggest going on a weekend to ensure that shops are open, but any time of year, you’ll find that Princeton makes a rewarding day trip from Milwaukee or Madison. Here’s how to spend your time there.
